Sensors

Question: Our Answer
How can I tell if the sensors are working? Electronic sensors work off of resistance. The easiest way to check is to compare the resistance on the temp sensor with the overheat sensor. They should be really close. You need a good digital volt/ohm meter to check.  You can also give me the exact events and I might be able to reason on which if either of the sensors are not working.
The red heater light blinks & the water cools down, but if I reset the switch on the cord, the heater will come back on for a few hours, then the light starts blinking again. What could cause this?
Most likely its the pressure switch. You probably will have to replace soon but let's see if you can adjust for now.

Turn off main power and open the access panel. Strapped to the back of the control box is a steel tube. That's the heater.

On the left backside of the tube, screwed into it is the pressure switch. You will see 2 wires coming out of it.

If it has a gray shell, remove and discard. If there is a piece of tape or metal clip holding the black adjust wheel, remove and discard. Turn the wheel one full turn clockwise. That should do it. IF not, try another turn, no more.

If the wheel doesn't turn easily or this doesn't solve the problem, replace. Go to:

You need switch #2000-064.

I recently purchased an OH sensor from (ccs) I installed the sensor but the spa repeatedly went on and off.
so I put the origanel sensor back . the spa seem to work ok for for 2 weeks, no over heating, BUT just last night the spa over heated. what could the problem be?
Initially it sounds like the pcboard has had an electrical surge to it and is damaged. When you say "it's overheating" is it actually overheating? Or is the sensor saying it's overheating?

IF it's actually overheating, then it's the pcboard. The first logical thing to check when the spa overheats is the sensor. But if the spa is actually getting HOT, then the fault is almost always to pcboard. The only other thing it could be is the temp sensor is not reacting to the heating water and giving the board a faulty reading. You can get that with a good digital voltmeter. You compare the OH sensor and Temp sensor when the spa shuts off. If they have close to the same resistance then the pcboard is at fault. My experience is that the Temp sensor is rarely at fault. It's usually the OH sensor (which you addressed) then a distant second is the pcboard and a far distant third is the temp sensor.
