MOST
Non-Jacuzzi Brand
Spas:
First, the key to
retrofitting these systems is determining if
your have the Industry standard of the #1 pump being a
2 speed pump. Fortunately, this configuration is
the most common for non-Jacuzzi brands spas.
Do you have only ONE pump/motor? If only
one pump/motor, It likely
has a low and high speed. You can
check by listening to see if your spa has a
low and high speed. Or look on the label and see
if it has two speeds listed. Also note if it's a
120v motor or 240v. If it has two speeds listed, it's a 2 speed
pump/motor and that is good.
IF your spa has 2
pump/motors. You must confirm the #1 pump has
2 speed. Although likely, confirming will make
installing easy. The industry standard is the #1
pump runs LOW when heating or filtering and HIGH
when you want more power. Standard retrokits
will be expecting this. If not, then this has to
be worked around.
Then
determine #2 pump is a
single speed or 2 speeds. Most retro kits operate the #2
at only one speed.
Finally, what other pieces of equipment do you
have and what are their voltages?

The following formula should help you decide
what you need. We are ASSUMING that you have
a TWO speed #1 pump.

WANT TO ADD AN OZONATOR? Either of the
above will operate an ozonator automatically. You have to decide 2
things. First, the voltage of the ozonator and second, the type. The
Qzone by Balboa can operate on either. You have to field adjust for the
voltage but it can handle either. Most ozonators will not. The Qzone
uses BULB technology that has been used since the mid-90's.
Your second choice is the more popular
"CD" ozonator. Its the current popular choice and produces a good amount
of ozone gas. You must choose the voltage of the ozonator you are going
to run the unit on. If you haven't decided, either of the above units
will operate a 110-120vac ozonator so chose that model.
One note: the voltage or the #1 pump
must match the ozonator. The ozonator operates on the same circuit as
the #1 pump.

How We Will Help |
| If you can supply us with
digital pictures, we will analyze what you will
have to do to |
| your spa to make it ready
to retro-fit. Sometimes you will have to remove |
| some parts and redirect
some plumbing. This is where we can help... and
it's free. |
| We can explain what you
need to do and how intensive it will be. The
biggest |
|
change on some systems is that you will have to
add either a 15a, 110-120vac GFCI or 50a,
220-240vac GFCI to protect
|
|
you spa and anyone touching or using the spa. GFCI means ground
fault circuit interrupt. It is mandatory for
safety and |
|
national code reasons. These can
be purchased at hardware stores or installed by
a licensed electrician. |
| On
older spas with existing electronic
systems, if properly wired, they already have a gfci |
| installed. Replacement of
this retro-fit into existing electronic systems
usually does |
| not require much change. |
